The Argentinian writer and theatre and film director Lola Arias has been awarded the International Ibsen Award 2024.
The International Ibsen Award 2024 is awarded to Lola Arias. The award ceremony will take place on the main stage of The National Theatre of Norway.
Lola Arias is an author, theatre and film director. Since 2007 she has worked in the field of documentary theatre, creating over a dozen plays in collaboration with people who have lived through different events or historical experiences. For twenty-five years, Lola Arias has created theatre that is democratic, diverse, and rooted in the lived experience. The International Ibsen Award committee writes in their statement that “her theatre engages with contemporary society, without any intellectual dominance or arrogance”.
The award ceremony will be led by actor Anneke von der Lippe. The award will be presented by State Secretary Even Aleksander Hagen.
Previous winners of the International Ibsen Award include acclaimed artists such as Back to Back Theatre, Taylor Mac, Christoph Marthaler, Forced Entertainment, Peter Handke, Peter Brook, Ariane Mnouchkine, Heiner Goebbels, and Jon Fosse.
